Zagades attitude refreshing
The energy and enthusiasm shown by the Pune Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade in a meeting with the members of the National society for Clean cities,on December 18,at the meeting hall in Corporation office was really refreshing.

Traders taking advantage of MRP
Certain chemical products manufactured and packaged in Pune are being sold in Pune at the MRP (Maximum Retail Price) printed on the packets by certain Medical Shops. For eg,for a 400 gms packet of Sodium Bi Carbonate,MRP printed on the packet is Rs.35/- and packet of Boric Acid 20 Gms MRP printed is is Rs.7/-) are being sold by certain medical shops in Yeravada at the MRP marked, whereas on M.G. Road ,Camp, these are available at Rs.25and Rs.5 respectively.
Unless the MRP price of such packaged commodities are printed specifically as MRP within Pune/Maharshtra and outside Pune/Maharashtra,the unwary customers would continue to get exploited by greedy shop keepers.
Is there is any authority to check and control on such malpractice by the shop keepers ?

IMD needs to pull up its socks
I read about the Minister defending the IMD in the Dec 24 issue of Pune Newsline. Regarding the IMDs predictions and their reliabilty,I would like to make an observation.
Last week there were light rains in Pune and this drizzle was predicted on the MSNIndia site eight days before that! The weather forecast from IMD said about it being cloudy [which anyone could guess, without any instruments and technology! but nothing about rain.
I know Indian Monsoon is an unpredictable phenomenon but then it should be so for all weather bureaus, right? The common man doesnt find IMDs predictions reliable and people actually make fun of them they have been the butt of many a jokes and cartoons. Way back I had read an article describing Mihir Sens effort of swimming across the English Channel. Mr. Sen was very disappointed the night prior to the event since it was raining heavily. He was constantly assured by the weathermen of clear skies next morning. And lo! In the early dawn the rain actually stopped and he had a clear sea to jump in. This is a story from the Royal weather Bureau of the Sixties so can the common man expect more accuracy from IMD in 2010?Shrinivas Nimkar
