Making a mark with his nature inspired work called Toxin,Mumbai-based Nachiket Barve is a designer whose unconventional and out-of-the box designs make him someone to watch out for in the upcoming season. His spring- summer collection that brings out the beauty of nature sublimely indicates the dangerous side of it. Talking about his inspiration Barve says,“We observe a lot of animals and insects around us that are beautiful to look but at the same time are dangerous, like the Lion Fish or the Jelly Fish. Through my designs I am trying to bring out these contrasting ideas in vibrant and fresh colours like blue, orange and lime.” This collection will be available at city based couture store Rudraksh in beautiful tunics and dresses.

An alumnus of the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID),he has done projects with ace designers like Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in Mumbai and also earned a scholarship at the Ecole Nationale Superieur des Arts Decoratifs (ENSAD),Paris in addition to showcasing his work at international fashion weeks in Argentina and London. He began his career at the LFW GenNext Category in 2007 and since then has been making style statements with every fashion shown that he has shown his collections at.

“My designs are multipurpose i.e. they can be worn either as a day wear dress or an evening wear ,” he says. With versatility fast becoming his middle name,Barve loves to experiment with colours, textures and textiles. He adds,“ My clothes are not overtly sexy, they are practical and wearable without compromising on the glam quotient.”

Working with fabrics like chiffons, silks and georgettes he says,“I intend to make fashion more inclusive. I also plan to do consultation during my showcase here in Pune so that I can customise the designs according to the needs of my customers.” Talking about his future plans he adds,“In the past three years I have learnt a lot and now I have a better understanding of my customer’s expectations. I am looking at more tie-ups with stores across the country and make clothes that are wearable yet fashionable.”

When quizzed about Pune’s sense of fashion he says the fashion sense is reflected in the attitude of the people here and it is very chilled out and laidback. “In Pune people have a very individualistic vibe to their dressing. There are influences seen from other parts of the world due to the large influx of tourists and visitors,” he says.
