A notorious chain-snatcher on police records,who had been arrested earlier and was out on bail,was arrested along with two accomplices for a recent chain-snatching incident,police said.
A gold chain robbed recently was recovered from them,police said. Deccan Gymkhana police identified the suspects as Karan Kohli,32,who is from Nagar district and stays in Wadarwadi in Pune,Ganesh Orpe,22,of Wadarwadi and Vijay Salunkhe,25,a resident of Uruli Kanchan.
Police said Kohli has more than 80 cases of chain-snatching registered against him at various police stations in the city. Police said Kohli recently snatched a gold chain from a woman at Baba Bhide bridge.
Manohar Joshi,a senior inspector of Deccan Gymkhana police station,said that a trap was laid to nab them after the police were tipped off by the informants of a constable.
He was arrested along with his two accomplices on Saturday. We now know that after he came out of jail,he teamed up with Orpe and Salunkhe and had again started snatching chains in various parts of the city. We have seized the gold chain that he had snatched in the recent incident.
Police said Kohli consumes marijuana has been trapping youths to join in his crimes by luring them with the contraband. He also has a case of vehicle theft registered against him,Joshi said.
