City students who had appeared for their CBSE Class X exams in March were a happy lot when the results were announced on Thursday as schools recorded an increase in the number of students scoring a perfect 10 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). The pass percentage of Maharashtra was 99.46, which is 0.34 per cent less than last time, and the state stood sixth in the list of nine states where results were announced.

While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) took its time to publish the results, city schools faced tremendous hassles in accessing their school reports till late in the evening.

At the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Range Hills, which saw a 100 per cent result, two people had to call up 116 students to tabulate the school result. Of these, 11 scored perfect 10 CGPAs. All students gave the CBSE boards as they did not have the option to go for the school-based assessment.

Kendriya Vidyalaya CME, Dapodi, with 131 students also saw a 100 per cent pass percentage. Six students scored 10 CGPA. The school’s official said, “The board should send an e-mail to the schools first. We cannot call up all the students individually.”

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Army area, however, had a substantial number of students who had taken to internal assessment as their mode of evaluation. Out of 175 students in the school, 50 had opted for internal assessment and 120 had opted for the regular board examination. All its students have cleared their exams. Reacting to the issue of a jammed server, Geeta Balagangadharan, principal of the school, said her school faced a lot of difficulty in tabulating results. “It was only after 5:30 pm that my school received an e-mail from the board. Earlier, we had to check the results of individual students,” said Balagangadharan.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station, saw a 98.07 pass percentage. As many as 153 of its 156 students cleared the exams, with eight students scoring CGPAs of 10. Till as late as 7 in the evening, the school had not received an e-mail regarding its school-wise result.

Teachers pieced together the results by entering the names and dates of birth of each student to get the individual score and thus to get the overall school report. “It was better when they released the results of each region separately. The present system leads to jamming of the server,” said a school official.
