It is not skill but passion that I am born with, says Vidvan T M Krishna,Carnatic music exponent, who feels that Carnatic music offers a unique blend of improvised and composed music and that makes it interesting and different from western music form, which are more composition based. The artiste was in town to perform during the ongoing Gaaja Baaja musical fest. Coming from a family of businessmen,Krishnas talent was recognized at an early age of six and gave his first performance at a young age of 12 years at Spirit of Youth Series organised by Music Academy,Chennai. Unlike many other classical music exponents,Krishna feels that there is a lot of hope for classical music and its no more endangered. We have so many students learning classical music and most importantly we have music lovers, who make it easy for the musicians to survive and ear a name. Moreover,we have various mediums like- live concerts, music albums and even videos to reach out to people and now even youth is responding to out efforts, says Krishna. Talking about the identity of the art form,he says that Carnatic music is not only structurally different from Hindustani classical but it also commands aesthetic difference. I enjoy Jugalbandi with Ustad Rashid Khan. Music,no matter how different or origin can be enjoyed by everybody in one or the other form and Carnatic music is one of those enjoyable music forms, explains the maestro. Apart from performing in various parts of the world, the maestro has also been involved in research in the field of Carnatic music. He has given numerous lecture demonstrations on various facets of the art form and its history. Giving the credits to his Gurus,Krishna says that after his tutelage under B Seetharama Sharma,he also received advanced training from the late Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer for more than seven years. This was the artistes fourth visit to the city and haring his experience with the city. He says that it had always been been wonderful given the aesthetic taste of people, who appreciate art making it a delight to perform infront of them. Be it any form of music,Pune denizens enjoy it whole heartedly. Probably that is the reason that every kind of art survives in Pune, concludes Krishna, who also given music for a concert movie in 2009.
