City-based Hindi rock band Ashwamedh is making waves internationally. It was recently nominated for the Best Rock Song category (South Asia) for its song Aelaan at the Indiego Music Awards,2011,the finals of which will be held in Malaysia. Yudi, the lead vocalist of the band has also been nominated in the Best Rock Vocalist (South Asia) category. Indiego Music Awards,an initiative of Bitemymusic,is the first South Asian award to honour young talent in several musicalgenres. Ashwamedh is competing with heavyweights like Qayaas and Sifar from Pakistan and Breath Space from Sri Lanka. Penned in the backdrop of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai,Aelaan ‘declares a war against the social system’. Through Aelaan,we have tried to reach out to the youth of the country and bring a change in the social system, says Yudi. Aelaan was also aired on the Jaago Mumbai FM during its campaign for the cause of India Against Corruption. We support Anna Hazare and his endeavours and tried doing our bit in helping him out, says Nitin, the drummer. Yudi feels that the bond that the members share with each other makes Ashwamedh what it is today. This positive atmosphere also helps them make good music. It was never difficult for us to add rock tunes to Hindi lyrics because music has no language, adds Prasun Choudhury, the rhythm guitarist.
