Business as usual for top seeds at district badminton tournament

Riya Jail overcame tough opposition in the form of Suparna Joshi during her first round at the under-19 girls’ singles match in the District badminton Championship organised by Pune District Metropolitan Badminton Association.

Riya Jail overcame tough opposition in the form of Suparna Joshi during her first round at the under-19 girls’ singles match in the District badminton Championship organised by Pune District Metropolitan Badminton Association. The tournament is being played at Modern PDMBA complex.

Although Jail ultimately triumphed over Joshi (21-19,21-17),she had to fight hard against her feisty opponent. In a riveting match,both players traded long rallies and executed a series of drop shots.

In other matches,Aditi Kale defeated Simona Wagale (21-7,21-3),while Rucha Rajopadhye prevailed over Tanvi Tilloo (21-10,21-9). Sanchi Dham defeated Shivani Joshi (21-13,21-5) and Rucha Brahme beat Vaidehi Pawar (21-7,21-6).

In the girls under-15 round,top seed Purva Barve was hardly troubled by Ishwari Pujari as she registered a 21-2,21-8 victory. Second seed Shreeya Bhagwat defeated Gauri Kulkarni (21-14,21-9) while third seed Gauri Kinikar beat Mrunal Pathare (21-12,21-11). Fourth seed Amarja Kulkarni defeated Pratiksha Kokare (21-7,21-7).

In the men’s doubles (45 plus) category round one,Bipin Chobe and Milind Kibe logged a win over Sarvesh Bhide and Sanjay Kadam (21-8,21-16).

Anil Bhandari and Avinash Bhave beat Dhananjay Deshpande and RD More (21-10,21-14). Kiran Aadhav and Umesh Lele beat Sachin Limaye and Waman Phanasalkar (21-18,21-1) in a tough match. Jaywant Bhosale and Dinesh Karve beat Rahul Kale and Sandeep Sathe (21-15,22-20).
