Woman ‘hangs self’ in shelter home

LUCKNOW: A 27-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan at the women’s shelter home in Bareilly on Saturday evening. No suicide note was found. The matter came to light during the head count after the staff found that one inmate (Shanti) was missing. Probation Officer Usha Tiwari said a magisterial inquiry had been ordered into the incident.

Brother-in-law ‘rapes,sets girl on fire’

HARDOI: A 17-year-old girl was raped and immolated allegedly by her brother-in-law in Bilgram area here,the police said today. According to a complaint lodged on Saturday,the girl was raped and later set on fire by her brother-in-law on Friday night. The wife of the accused,also the victim’s sister,however,said that her husband had only teased the girl and claimed that the teenager committed suicide.

Two children killed in wall collapse

HARDOI: Two children were killed and as many injured when a wall collapsed on them following heavy rain in Kantha Lonhara village on Saturday,the officials said. Shubham (2),Anshu (4),Shubhash (6) and Himanshu (6) came under the rubble following a house collapse in their village,with Shubham and Anshu passing away during the treatment at a local hospital. The condition of the other two is said to be stable.

LUCKNOW: 2 cops carry body on JCB machine,suspended

Two police constables in Firozabad were suspended on Sunday after they used a Josephy Cyril Bamford (JCB) machine to carry a decomposed body,recovered from a nullah,to the postmortem house. The body,which was without clothes,was paraded for around 2 km on the earthmoving machine through the main market in Firozabad.

Firozabad SP Rakesh Singh said constables Chandra Pal and Vijay Baran Singh have been suspended for negligence of duty. He said that it was the responsibility of police to take the body for postmortem,“but their way of carrying the body on JCB machine was wrong”.

Additional SP Rakesh Kumar Pandey has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit report within two days.

Police said the cause of death could be ascertained after receiving the postmortem report. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Preetam,a local resident,who had been missing for the past four days.
