Breathtaking development: Park needed,say residents

Aundh has been developing into a residential hub with buildings coming up at a rapid pace.

Aundh has been developing into a residential hub with buildings coming up at a rapid pace. Relief in the form of a park with a jogging track and other facilities is something the residents have been demanding the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for long, without results. The existing Nana-Nani Park and another small garden do not cater to the need of people who say they need a municipal park.

The Aundh Vikas Mandal,an organisation of residents have been following it up with the corporation. “Since 2003,we have been hearing promises of gardens in our area. Although the officials have been giving us assurances, there has been no progress,’’ says Sarayu Sanghvi,a resident of Anand Park and a member of the Mandal.

Girish Deshpande, another member and spokesperson of the Professionals Party of India, says letters have been sent to the municipal corporation. “We have stated that progress on the proposed sites (survey nos 127 next to Polka dots and survey no 155 opposite Aundh gym) has been very slow. The gardens were to be readied by March 31 and we have already crossed the deadline,’’ says Deshpande .

PMC has been trying to speed up the proposal for survey no 125 opposite green park hotel and sector no 86. PMC officials said the two proposed gardens would be given land at the earliest. Each will measure 1.5 acres, says a PMC official.

Sukanya Rathi,of Aundh Annexe, says,“We are surrounded by concrete with green patches in their own housing societies. The PMC should give us the park.’’

Deshpande says residents do not have a park for walking, exercising or jogging.
