The Crime Branch of Pune Police Wednesday swooped on Bishna Ram Mohanram Bishnoi, wanted in connection with the murder of Rajasthan nurse Bhanwari Devi,at an industrial warehouse in Lonavala, completing the last and possibly critical piece of the case jigsaw.
Information about the suspected presence of Bishnoi was passed on by the (Rajasthan) CBI on Tuesday night to joint commissioner Sanjiv Kumar Singhal. The clues we got initially were not very solid. We got a breakthrough early on Wednesday morning, and Bishnoi was arrested from an industrial warehouse in Lonavala, Police Commissioner Meeran Borwankar said. She declined to comment on the role Bishnoi is suspected to have played in the Bhanwari case, saying that it was with the CBI.
Crime Branch sources said the 26-year-old Bishnoi had come to Pune some time in the first week of December, and had been hiding out in Lonavala for the last couple of weeks. He stayed in Pune city for about 10 to 15 days and then went to Lonavala. We suspect that he met some people in Pune and Lonavala. We are yet to find out how he came to Pune. He has been changing his location from time to time. He was not working anywhere, said an officer.
Inspector Suresh Kekane of the Crime Branch produced Bishnoi before judicial magistrate first class K P Jain-Desarda at Shivajinagar court this evening. The court granted police two-day transit remand to allow him to be taken to Jodhpur. Borwankar said,At this point I cannot share information about who were helping him here. A reward of Rs 5 lakh has been put on Bishnoi. For their excellent work,we will recommend names of our team members to the state for a reward.
Assistant public prosecutor Supriya More said through the Crime Branchs remand application that Bishnoi has 42 cases registered against him at various places in Rajasthan. The investigation was led by assistant commissioner of police Vinod Satav, police inspectors Suresh Kekane,Sunil Tambe and API Karbhari Handore. A Pune Police team will leave for Jodhpur on Thursday.
