“It feels special to be a part of the Mangeshkar family. I feel blessed and honoured. Also at the same time I feel like the chosen one to carry on the legacy of my illustrious family,” says Radha Mangeshkar daughter of Pt. Hridayanath Mangeshkar.

Radha, the niece of accomplished singer and Bharat Ratna Awardee Lata Mangeshkar, was in the city for the launch of her maiden album Naav Maza Shaami. Speaking more about the album she says,“The album was conceptualised by Saregama and my father Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar. They wanted to do an album which bought about the essence of traditional folk music and that is how it all happened. The album has various traditional Maharashtrian and Goan folk songs by legendary Marathi poets ND Mahanor,Sudhir Moghe and the Lt. BB Borkar.”

Revealing more about her first venture she says,“The songs for the album have been selected by my father and Guru Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar. They are beautiful poems, which are true reflections of the Maharashtrian culture and have actually been composed for the first time. The album also contains songs like Mazya Govyachya Bhumit, which depict the scenic beauty of Goa. The reason for choosing songs like these is that my family originally hails from Goa and the song is a sort of a tribute to the beautiful place.”

Radha started her singing career by learning music from her father Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar. She also sang with him in his famous music performances Bhavsargam. In addition to this she also has diverse interests in education travel and reading.

About her future plans she says,“I do not believe in planning. Anything that comes my way would be accepted if it is good. Also as far as my maiden album is concerned there is no pressure or tensions. Of course there is a lot of pressure from the media but I think I can handle it all well.”
