Best Bump Forward

Not since Jackie Kennedy have we seen a fashion icon as big as the British royal. Right from the time her engagement to Prince William,second in line to the British throne,was announced,the world has been swept away by her dimpled smile,luscious mane,jewel-tone dresses and easy elegance in general. She was a high-street maven even before that she worked at Jigsaw. But it was just after their engagement interview that her popularity skyrocketed. In fact,the British royal family has never enjoyed such a wonderful public image until her arrival. And they are making the most of her image to fill up their charitable trunks.

Kim Kardashian is everything that a reality star ought to be: without much talent to write about,rich,provocatively dressed and in the news for being in the news. She’s already pregnant with singer Kanye West’s child even before her 72-day marriage to sports star Kris Humphries has been annulled.

Both women find themselves fodder for the style pages for their sartorial choices while pregnant.

Kate is waif-like in her pregnancy,there’s only a hint of a bump even as she enters her final trimester. She’s keeping it as lady-like as usual,layering her elegant dresses with an A-line belted coat. She chooses her sober creams and jewel-tone colours,a chic clutch and her favourite pumps. She looks as perfect as,well,a princess.

But Kim appears to be the braver one. She has always dressed in the latest trends,so why should her pregnancy get in the way? Her fashion styles are still fierce and she won’t apologise for having fun with her clothes. She is showing off her (rather large) bump with skin-fit dresses,peekaboo camisole tops and tights. She is rather heavy,even overweight. But if she can’t control it,she may as well make the most of it. She has more hits than misses (those baby doll dresses only highlight her roundness),but she gets an ‘A’ for pushing the envelope.

Of course,Kate has many fans,but to be honest she barely looks pregnant. Kim’s gigantic girth has elicited many guffaws,but a recent tweet reveals she doesn’t care. “You’ve got to do what’s right for you,even if it doesn’t make sense to someone else!” she wrote on Twitter.

Interestingly,she gets support from Hollywood royalty,Gwyneth Paltrow,who said she thinks Kim looks “absolutely beautiful”.

Kate’s failsafe sophistication would seem to be the bigger winner. But a quick Google search on maternity fashion along with their names reveals that both celebrities yield equal results: 30 million.

Clearly both women have made their point,you can be both polished and provocative when preggers. Although the real winner is ultra stylish maternity fashion.
