The Ruby Hall Clinic, in association with Bajaj Finserv, a diversified financial services group, announced the inauguration of the cutting-edge CyberKnife S7 radiotherapy system.

This state-of-the-art technology was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Finance, Bhagwat Karad. State Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil was also present at the event.

The system’s capabilities enable real-time tracking and automatic adjustments, ensuring that radiation is administered directly to the tumour, sparing surrounding healthy tissues. This precise targeting enhances treatment efficacy and reduces the risk of side effects, ultimately improving the patient’s quality of life during the treatment process, Dr. Bhooshan Zade, Chief Consultant and Director, Department of CyberKnife Radiosurgery and Radiation Oncology, Kamalnayan Bajaj Cancer Centre, Ruby Hall Clinic, said.

“This therapy will help patients minimise the time they spend in daily treatments and maximise the number of cancer patients they can treat each day. This becomes all the more pertinent given the fact that a research paper published by the Indian Council of Medical Research in December last year estimated that cancer cases are likely to increase from 14.6 lakh in 2022 to 15.7 lakh in 2025 in India, making cancer one of the fastest growing epidemics in the country,” Dr. PK Grant, Chairman, Managing Trustee and Chief Cardiologist, Ruby Hall Clinic, said.

This technology can precisely target tumours, even in the most challenging anatomical locations. For instance, during treatment, the CyberKnife System will detect any movement of the patient or the tumour and will automatically move the robot to ensure that the cancer is always precisely targeted. This allows for higher doses of radiation to be delivered to the tumour each day, substantially shortening overall treatment times while minimizing the likelihood of unwanted side effects.
