To celebrate its walk through ten years,the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) this year will be inaugurated by Amitabh Bachchan and Minister for Cultural Affairs Sanjay Devtale at City Pride,Kothrud,on January 12. Iceland Ambassador to India Gudmundur Eirikson and actor Rani Mukherjee will be the guest of honour.
For her contribution to the Indian cinema,Padmavibhushan Asha Bhosale,will be honoured and felicitated at the festival.
In the previous years,the same honour has been conferred upon various luminaries like Dilip Kumar,Lata Mangeshkar,Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. Also,two years ago PIFF introduced the S D Burman International Award for Creative Music and Sound. Music directors Pyarelal and Khayyam Saab were the recipients earlier and this year Padmabhushan Ilaiyaaraja will be joining the list. Besides this,PIFF will be felicitating Marathi actor Sachin Pilgaonkar for completing 50 years in the film industry.
The festival will kick off with the cultural programme followed by the screening of inaugural film Top Floor Left Wing,directed by Angelo Cianci from France. PIFF will screen more than 240 films and documentaries at City Pride Kothrud,R-Deccan,City Pride Abhiruchi,E-square,Inox and National Film Archives of India (NFAI). The Marathi films competition screenings will take place at City Pride,kothrud,Student films competition at E-square,country focus (Germany) at Archive theatre and world competition and rest of the films will be screened at R-Deccan,Inox and City Pride Abhiruchi.
