Officers state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday interrogated the father and brother of Shaikh Lalbaba Mohammed Hussain alias Bilal,27,a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba operative and an associate of German Bakery blast prime suspect Himayat Inayat Baig. The officers said they were trying to trace any transaction that could throw light on foreign funding to Bilal.

An ATS team visited Hotgi, the native village of Bilal in Solapur,on Saturday afternoon and questioned Bilal’s father Mohammad Hussain Shaikh and brother Sameer. Bilal was arrested by the ATS on September 7 on charges of possessing explosives and conspiring to carry out terror attacks in Nashik.

One of the senior ATS officers said,“An officer from the Nashik unit of ATS carried out a thorough inspection of Bilal’s Hotgi house. After the inspection,Bilal’s father and brother were summoned to the gram panchayat office for questioning around 2.30 pm on Saturday.”

The officer said Bilal had been working as a lathe worker in Satpur industrial area of Nashik for quite some time under a fake name,Prashant. He had allegedly done a locational survey of the Deolali camp of the Indian Army and the Maharashtra Police Academy. He had allegedly recced some crucial religious places also around Nashik. He had also allegedly changed his name to Amin Parekh and Iqbal Sutar while doing such anti-national acts.

The ATS team also verified the ration card, property documents, bank passbook of Mohammad Hussain Shaikh and passport of Bilal’s brother. Sources said the team was looking for links that could give information on any foreign funding to Bilal as it suspected the bank accounts of his father or brother could have been used for it. Bilal, who had allegedly gone to Pakistan two years ago for arms training and returned early this year,is yet to be charged in the bakery blast case.
