Feeding the underprivileged
On Sunday,underprivileged people were given food at the St Ignatius Church Campus. Organised by the Society of St Vincent De Paul,this programme was conducted as part of their efforts to reach out to the economically weak sections of society. Alex Periera,one of the members,said,Around 160 people came in for the programme. Not only did we feed them but we also gave them non-breakable acrylic plates and a packet of biscuits to take away. Mostly attended by children and senior citizens,the programme was on between noon and 2 pm. John Lawrence,another member,said,We had a total budget of Rs 20000 for the programme.
The Number Game
The 6th Regional Abacus and Mental Arithmetic competition 2011 was held by SIP Academy India Pvt Ltd on October 3 at the Balkrishna Mangal Karyalaya,Dange Chowk,Chinchwad. The event saw participation from 1700 children from Pune,Pimpri Chinchwad,Pune district and Ahmednagar district. The contest,which tested the skills of children between 7 to 12 years,was won by 18 champions from 18 different categories. The children exhibited their prowess in numerical abilities using their skills learnt through the SIP Abacus and Brain Gym programme. The competition tested the concentration,confidence,intelligence,speed and accuracy of the participants. The objective was to develop a competitive spirit amongst these children and motivate them to excel in the programme. Present at the event was Yogesh Behl,mayor,PCMC.
