Another spurt in chain-snatching cases in city: 5 cases in 2 days

Five incidents of chain-snatching were reported on Thursday and Friday under jurisdictions of various police stations across the city. The total number of chain-snatching incidents in 2012 has now gone up to 196.
On Thursday morning,Lalita Pawar of Anandnagar area in Chinchwad was on her way to Kirloskar Society when two unidentified bike-borne persons snatched her gold chain worth Rs 20,000. Chatushrungi police are investigating the case.
In other incident,Mangal Shukla (58) of Warje was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 25,000 by two unidentified persons on Friday . Inspector P N Solankar of Warje Malwadi police station is investigating the case.
In the third incident,a senior citizen Shamal Bidkar (60) of Sinhagad Road was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 24,000 by two motorcycle-borne assailants when she was out on a morning walk with her husband. Dattawadi police is investigating the case.
Two more incidents of chain-snatching were registered in the jurisdiction of Kothrud police station at 10.20 am and 11 am at Kishkindhanagar and Tathawade Park. Sumegha Pandurang Agashe (51) of Karvenagar and Sarita Prabhakar Ghatpande (64) of Kothrud were targeted by the bike-borne suspects.
Inspector Vilas Naranwar of Kothrud police station is investigating the cases.
