The nationwide strike of Air India pilots did not have much effect in Pune. Only one of the three flights was cancelled while the rest flew as per schedule, said Dhairyasheel Vandekar,station manager,Air India,Pune.
The Bangalore-Hyderabad-Pune flight scheduled to arrive at 11 am and depart at 3.30 was cancelled causing problems for 100 passengers scheduled to board it. We accommodated some on other carriers. Some requested a refund while others wanted to book tickets on later dates. We gave them what each wanted, added Vandekar.
The strike caused inconvenience to passengers across the nation. Though none of our clients from Pune were directly affected,one of them missed a connecting flight from Delhi to Japan due to the strike, said Yogendra Kaushik,owner,Travel Home Tours and Travels in Koregaon Park.
There were three Air India flights on Wednesday,the other two being the Pune-Dubai international flight scheduled to depart at 4 pm and a Pune-Delhi flight at 6.40 pm,both of which departed on time. P S R K Sudhakar,airport director,could not be contacted as his phone was switched off.
