The district administration has issued a notice banning the carrying of weapons ahead of the gram panchayat elections in the district. The notice is valid till July 23.
1,074 gram panchayats of Pune and Satara district will go for the elections on July 30. More than three lakh voters will elect 6,323 members from 689 gram panchayats in 13 talukas of Pune district,while in Satara district,385 gram panchayats will go to the polls on the same day.
The district administration has issued a notice on security measures ahead of these elections for free and fair polls. A total of 2,481 polling booths will be used in Pune district of which 93 have been classified as highly-sensitive and 140 vulnerable. Around 88 villages have been classified as highly sensitive in Satara district and 167 polling booths as vulnerable.
The last date to file nominations was July 16 while the last date to withdraw names was July 19. The final list of candidates will be published while counting will be done a day after polling,on July 31.
The district administration,meanwhile,has continued issuing voter ID cards. According tothe administration nearly 90 per cent voters in rural areas of the district have been given ID cards while in the city area 75 per cent voters have voter ID cards.
The state government has sanctioned a grant of Rs 1.25 crore for these elections.
