The 41 st batch of nursing graduates to pass out of the College of Nursing,Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC),will be commissioned into the Military Nursing Services today.
Lt Gen D P Vats,director and commandant,AFMC,will be the chief guest at the ceremony. According to Col Elizabeth John,principal,College of Nursing AFMC,twenty eight graduates will be commissioned,after completing their four-year training for the BSc (Nursing) degree,awarded by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS),Nashik.
The College of Nursing,AFMC was established on November 10,1964. The annual intake is 40 students. Admission to the course is through an all India open competitive examination. The College has achieved a 100 per cent pass result in all University examinations with several distinctions. Till date,1,056 nursing graduates have passed out of the college. In addition,157 nursing officers have completed PB BSc (Nursing) and 114 nursing officers have completed OT Nursing and Orthopaedic Nursing courses. The College has started the MSc (Nursing) course also from 2008,with an annual intake of eight students.
College of Nursing,AFMC is the only institution in the Armed Forces offering B.Sc (Nursing),P.B.BSc (Nursing),M.Sc (Nursing) and specialization courses in Orthopaedic and Operation Theatre nursing.
