Administration not forthright on city volunteer corps: PPI

The Professional Party of India (PPI) on Wednesday alleged that the civic administration was not being forthright regarding the process of setting up City Volunteer Technical Corps (CVTC) for guiding civic body on development activities being implemented under the JNNURM as it was unlikely that the response to the membership of the panel would be poor as claimed by the civic administration. It further demanded to re-look at the process in a totally transparent way.

With Pune having a number of remarkably active citizens,NGOs and vigilant bodies,highly active,watchful and energetic in every field of improving the quality of life of citizens – perhaps like none other in the country – it is highly unlikely that the response to the technical committes on improving city infra and other issues would have been poor as claimed by the senior civic official, said Girish Despande of PPI.

The Indian Express on Wednesday had highlighted the PMC claim that there was poor response to its invitation from expert citizens in CVTC under JNNURM.

He said the PPI itself would have pitched in members for matters related to governance,but were unaware of the move of the civic body.

The PMC should come clear on the kind of publicity made by PMC on inviting applications for CVTC so that the intention of the administration would be known to everyone,Deshpande said urging the PMC JNNURM cell to publish the selected names for CVTC it would sent to union government.

He expressed concern that the CVTC under JNNURM are likely to be representatives of various political parties,cronies of civic officials or other such whose intentions may be mis-placed and therefore harmful to the city’s progress.

The PMC as per the directions of union government has invited applications from citizens to be part of the CVTC as it would be forming three member team in different categories of urban engineering,planning,poverty aleviation,governance,heritage,environment and financial services.
