NCC academies to come up in Latur and Solapur.
Additional Director General of Maharashtra Directorate of National Cadet Corps (NCC) has sought the support the of state government,local political authorities,civil administration and colleges and schools concerned to enable expeditious formation of battalions and setting up of NCC academies in the scheduled time frame. The formation of additional NCC battalions at Washim and Sindhudurg is on the cards besides the plan to set up NCC academies in Latur and Solapur.
The issues concerning NCC were discussed recently at a three-day conference convened by Major General S Sengupta,ADG,Maharashtra Directorate of National Cadet Corps.
The ADG appreciated the enthusiasm and motivation of the youth of the state who have shown interest in joining the NCC. To meet the aspirations of youth,NCC has adopted a multi-pronged approach whereby it is planning to open NCC academies at Latur and Solapur. The formation of additional NCC battalions at Washim and Sindhudurg is also on the cards, said a Press Information Bureau release.
The ADG exhorted officers to encourage colleges and schools to opt for the NCC as an elective subject in the curriculum,so that more and more youth could take advantage of the NCC. He also encouraged Group Commanders to take up social awareness and activities that would imbibe humane values in cadets, the release added.
To increase NCC coverage,Director General,NCC,New Delhi,has taken up the case with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for introducing NCC as an additional elective subject.
