Members of Bavdhan Area Sabha and Baner Sabha will meet Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan regarding the encroachments on Ramnadi.
Their demands include a list of encroachments and a timeline action plan for removal of encroachments to save the river.
It is essential to have a timeline for restoring the river to its natural course. There were two action plans submitted in 2005 and in 2009. We want to know the outcome of these plans,’ said Suneel Joshi from Jal Biradari.
Even as district collector Vikas Deshmukh has ordered another survey, activists feel that such surveys have not led to any outcome. We will be meeting the Chief Minister and discussing the issue. It is essential to come out with a detailed plan of action and unless the issue is raised to the government level, the discussions will continue, said Joshi.
The district administration has ordered a survey of Ramnadi to draw up flood lines with the declaration that any structure built within the floodlines being illegal. The members of both Baner and Bavdhan Sabha want to get a positive response so that they again do not face losses due to flooding when there is incessant rainfall as it was in September last year.
The members said even after the episode there has been no action plan lined up and this year too they fear they would have to face similar consequences. The new plan will be chalked out by Tehsildar of Mulshi, irrigation department, town planning department ahead of the monsoon for the Ramnadi.
