ACB arrests MSEB cop for demanding bribe

The ACB sleuths initiated investigation and confirmed that Borude initially demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 but later negotiated it to Rs 5,000.

The Pune unit of state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a policeman attached to the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) police station for allegedly demanding bribe from an offender.

According to the ACB, assistant police sub-inspector Sopan Godaji Borude was investigating a case registered under the Indian Electricity Act at the MSEB police station. Borude allegedly contacted the person against whom the offence was lodged and demanded Rs 15,000 for not taking any action against him. Borude also promised to shelve investigation into the case if the bribe was paid.

The offender, however, filed a complaint against Borude at the ACB Pune office. The ACB sleuths initiated investigation and confirmed that Borude initially demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 but later negotiated it to Rs 5,000.
