Enthused by the addition of more than 10,000 new members during the recent membership drive, Pune unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will undertake a special two-day drive to ensure key government establishments follow rules pertaining to the Citizens’ Charter, from Wednesday.
Offices of Pune Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner and District Collector will be covered during the first day of the drive. Other important government establishments will be covered the next day.
During our drive, we will prevail upon heads of government offices to come out with this charter,” said Subhash Ware, national executive member of AAP from Pune.
AAP activists will pay a visit to senior bureaucrats in major local government establishments with ‘til-gul’ in view of Makar Sankranti.
“Ours is an earnest appeal to government establishments to follow rules pertaining to the Citizens’ Charter by January 26, the Republic Day. Thereafter, we would be intensifying our agitation to press for citizen-centric demands,” Ware said.
AAP’s Pune district committee member Divyang Baldota said party members have been informed about the importance of the charter in government offices and its benefit to the common man. “During our latest four-day membership drive from January 10, we informed new members about the importance of the charter, among other essential knowledge. We stressed that this particular legal provision enables the service seekers to avail the services of the government establishments with minimum inconvenience and maximum speed,” he said.
In the latest drive, AAP Pune unit’s priority is to ensure that notice boards are placed at prominent spots in government offices directing citizens where to go and how to proceed with work.
As per law, if no final decision is taken within the period specified in the Citizens’ Charter by the authorities concerned, the responsibility for inaction shall be fixed on them and action mentioned in the relevant Act, rules or regulations shall be taken against them.
