There are two types of churros in Spain one is thin and knotted and the other is long and thick called the porra. While the classical recipe of Churros does not subscribe to any garnishing,a few places in the city offer churros sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. The dessert is not easy to spot on city restaurant menus,but we’ve done some snooping around to find the four best places where you can indulge your sweet tooth.
The Chocolate Room
At its Fergusson College Road outlet,The Chocolate Room stands true to its name. It’s chocolate all the way right from mousses to drinks to desserts. To top it,Spanish Churros finds a tempting spot on the menu. Called the Chocolat y Churros,this preparation is a refreshing break from the usual chocolate delicacies. Churros,made from flour,is served with thick chocolate sauce. It’s not too popular,as people have not heard of it,but once they try it,there is always a repeat order, says Sachin Katkar,manager,The Chocolate Room.

La Brasserie,Le Meridien
Walk in to the plush La Brasserie at Le Meridien,Raja Bahadur Mills Road,on a Sunday morning and the gourmet delicacies and snacks will catch the eye. But what really tempts is the chocolate fountain. And next to it are the freshly fried Churros. This dessert gets a wonderful make-over with its cinnamon and sugar coated option and the chocolate and strawberry dip. Chef Nadir Shaikh says it’s quite a popular dessert and tastes good even without any add-ons.

Four Points By Sheraton
Chef Sunit Sharma,from Four Point,By Sheraton,describes Churros as a cross between jalebis and donuts. At this hotel,churros compliment the Thursday evening theme ‘Go West’ and add a Spanish flavour to the menu. It’s very popular here. We serve it as small thin tubes of pastry,deep fried and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, says Sharma. Its crisp exterior and soft center are what make it a delight. They can be eaten with warm chocolate sauce or plain,the choice is yours.
Courtyard By Marriott
Churros is a sinful delight at Courtyard by Marriott. Try the Cabo Churros,named so by Chef Sahdev Mehta after the small town in East Mexico. Made by frying in a medium hot pan,the Churros here are rolled in cinammon and sugar and had with vanilla or maple walnut ice-cream. Or then relish it with chocolate sauce,blueberry relish and butterscotch sauce. It’s a simple recipe and I experiment a lot with it, says Mehta.
