In yet another incident of a traffic cop beating a traffic offender,on Tuesday a traffic police constable slapped a 25-year-old youth,who had jumped traffic signal at Dorabjis Chowk on Ambedkar Road in Pune Camp.
Considering the seriousness of the incident,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vishwas Pandhare immediately transferred the police constable Jyotiram More from Cantonment traffic division.
Speaking to reporters,Pandhare said,On Tuesday afternoon,More was manning the traffic at Dorabjee Chowk. He stopped motorcycle rider Rohit Subhash Nikam for jumping the signal. More pulled out the key from the bike and was about to give him the L-temp (licence temporary) when Nikam started arguing with him. He added that Nikam had started using filthy language against More,after which both of them had heated arguments. More threw the vehicle and slapped Nikam. Assistant police inspector R J Kale,who was on the spot,informed the traffic branch about the incident.
Meanwhile,judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) S B Deore released other traffic offenders Bhanudas Sahebrao Tambe and Hrishikesh Tambe on bail. The Tambes submitted in open court that they would file a detailed private complaint against the police officer Eknath Sawant who had allegedly hit him with a walkie talkie. The magistrate directed that a copy of the order be submitted to the principal district and sessions judge for necessary action.
