‘A perfect swimmer’, says family as Supriya Sule joins in appeal to MEA to find missing Pune techie

Twelve days after a 26-year-old Pune techie, Siddhant Patil, drowned in the Glacier National Park in the US, his family is holding on to hope while also appealing to PM Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar to intervene in the matter.

“Search operations are going on and Siddhant is still missing. Siddhant not only knows swimming but he is also perfect in the water. He learned swimming in Pune and has been practising the sport all his life. Yet, there has been no trace of Siddhant till now,” the techie’s uncle Pritesh Chaudhari told The Indian Express. Chaudhari said that the family have no complaints about the search operations from the Indian or US administrations but they would be grateful if “Modiji or Mr Jaishankar urgently helped in this matter”.

Patil was a member of the staff at the company’s San Jose, California, headquarters. Responding to an email from The Indian Express, Cadence PR said, “Siddhant joined Cadence in April 2023 as a software engineer. He has been a highly valued member of our team. We are deeply saddened to hear of the recent tragic incident at Glacier National Park and offer our deepest sympathy to Siddhant’s family, friends and colleagues during this extremely difficult time.”

On July 14, Baramati MP Supriya Sule also appealed to Jaishankar. “Urgent Assistance: Search operation case of Indian techie Siddhant Vitthal Patil, who is presumed dead after drowning in Glacier National Park, US. A bright student, Patil used to live in Vishalnagar in the Pimple Nilakh area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, before he left for the US in 2020 to study MS at the University of California, Los Angeles. In Pune, he had attended Loyola School and went for an engineering degree at BITS Pilani. His family last heard of Patil when he was at Glacier National Park with six other friends. They had planned to spend three days at the park and were enjoying themselves. On the fateful days, Patil texted his mother that he would be returning to San Jose in three days. Two hours later, he was dead.

“We have been told that Siddhant was standing on a rock, when he slipped and fell into the river. His friends alerted the rangers, who carried out the search operations but could not find Siddhant. Helicopters and drones were also brought in but there was no sign of him,” Chaudhari said.
