Art,they say,is therapy. But for Tripat Lall, art is something that urged her to change her 20-year-old profession as a teacher and choose the canvas instead. The setting changed drastically for her,and from blackboards and mundane Science lessons,Lall soon found herself sporting artistic dreams,by dabbling in colours. Exhibiting her paintings for the first time in Pune at Malaka Spice,Koregaon Park,Lall’s enthusiasm is easy to associate to.
The exhibition, which will begin from September 16 and go on till September 30,is based on the theme of flowers and nature. Talking about her first exhibition,Lall says,It feels great to finally be able to pursue what I wanted to do. In fact, art is something that I have yearned to do for a long time. Her exhibition will have around 18 paintings, all related to nature. So what made Lall take up art? I always wanted to pursue art,but then I got into teaching and got too involved in it. I ended up painting only on weekends, but it was not enough for me. So I decided to take it up full-time.
Lall’s paintings are all done with oil-based mediums, with a few in acrylic. Oil is a medium that I like working in – it gives a good texture to the painting, which I want to bring in my art. She is also planning to work on different mediums in the future. While I prefer oil,I am open to a lot of mixed mediums too,so I am planning to try on new ideas in the future, she adds. And so,as one looks from one picture to another, its easy to see the vibrancy in the paintings coming along. Lall admits that she makes sure that her paintings are all done very colourfully. I think a bright painting can put a lot of life in the room,in that sense my work basically is very vibrant, she says.
But its the unending passion that she associates with art that keeps her glued to it. It’s strange – no matter how long I work,I don’t get tired. There is no fatigue, and I feel visibly refreshed after painting. I think it is therapeutic for me, she concludes.
