In a refreshing effort at artistic expression, four members of this family will present their canvases at an exhibition
Photo exhibitions dipped in nostalgia are a real treat. Headed by eminent artist – professor Jai Zharotia and his second-generation family, the city is about to witness for the very first time a family exhibition. Titled Kal Aaj Aur Kal,the exclusive exhibition is being held at Art2Day art gallery, and will run till December 12. This exhibition is basically an attempt to epitomize the various facets of artistic virtue that each one of us possesses in the family. Apart from me,there are three other artists in my family – my eldest son,Ajay Zharotia, and my daughters-in-law,Ritika and Shweta. I feel that all of us have different patterns of thinking and styles of expression; however I believe that we are all united under the canopy of art, says Zharotia, renowned painter and former professor at College of Art,New Delhi.
The very title of the exhibition signifies a linear and steady flow of inventiveness from one generation to another. Ajay Zharotia, who has inherited his art ethos from his father, believes that his fondness for art has developed because of his family backdrop – ever since his childhood,he has witnessed appreciation of art in his family. My journey into the world of art commenced with my father. I graduated from the College of Art,New Delhi, where my father was a professor. Prior to this,I have exhibited my paintings in several group shows and art camps. I work with acrylic on canvas and my forte is thematic figures inspired by mythology. As there are four painters in my family,we decided to project our works in a consolidated manner, says he.
All four participating artists are showcasing their latest works, for their first group show in Pune. Ritika Zharotia is a self-taught artist, and claims to have grown immensely under the guidance of her mentor and father-in-law. Art for me is a poetic expression of life. I specialise in pen and ink painting. My father-in-law has been my guru. I do not have a formal degree in art,but my keen interest and passion has driven me. My paintings are mostly based on abstract art form. This exhibition is going to be very special for all of us because we have been looking for an opportunity to showcase our works together on the same podium, she quips.
The fourth participating artist,Shweta Zharotia, estimates art as manifestation of self and emotions. Her forte is acrylic on canvas and her paintings mostly stem from abstract themes. Like other family members,Shweta is also trained in College of Arts,New Delhi.
The exhibition will be open to visitors from 11.00 am to 8.00 pm.
