5 honoured for nabbing armed robber

Two of the five hospital staff were injured while trying to nab the robber.

Five persons,including three staff of a private hospital,were felicitated by Pune Police Commissioner Meeran Borwankar on Thursday for nabbing an armed robber who was trying to escape with a bag containing cash in Chinchwad on Tuesday. Two of the five hospital staff were injured while trying to nab the robber.

Nigdi police have identified the suspect as Sadik Ajgar Ansari,23,of Nigdi. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when a cashier,security guard and a driver of a private hospital had come to a bank in Sambhajinagar area to withdraw cash. As the cashier was about to get into the car,Ansari approached cashier Rajendra Pawar,snatched the bag and fled.

However,security guard Chandrashekhar Gangan chased and caught him.

DCP Sanjay Shinde said,“The security guard sustained injuries on his hand.” Meanwhile,two more persons — a rickshaw driver Vilas Hulawale and a passerby Sunil Surana also helped the three nab the robber.

Shinde said,“It was really brave of them to try and succeed in catching a robber carrying a sharp double-edged knife.”
