4 hurt as tempo rams 6 vehicles at traffic signal in Moshi

Police said the tempo driver tried to flee the spot after the incident, but people at the spot chased and nabbed him, and handed him over to the police.

While trying to overtake, a speeding tempo collided with six vehicles, leaving at least four persons injured in Moshi on Thursday night.

Police said the tempo driver tried to flee the spot after the incident, but people at the spot chased and nabbed him, and handed him over to the police.

Sandip Chavan (31), resident of Khed, lodged the FIR in this case at MIDC Bhosari police station on Friday. Police have identified the accused tempo driver as Vilas Narayan Janjal (58).

Police said the complainant Sandip Chavan was travelling from Khed to Moshi in a car on Thursday night. While overtaking him, Janjal dashed his tempo into Chavan’s car around 11.30 pm, and further collided with five more vehicles that had stopped at the traffic signal at Bharat Mata chowk in Moshi.

Police said that in the mishap, a motorcyclist Paresh Patil (21) and his 19-year-old sister were left injured and two others in another car were left injured, too.

Police arrested Janjal and booked him under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 281, 324(4), 125(a), 125(b) and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

“The accused man works as a driver for a private company. We have taken his blood sample for medical examination to check for alcohol content,” said police Havaldar Shankar Rokade.
