3 dead on tracks

Three persons were killed and one was injured on railway track in two incidents on Friday morning. Police suspect that a passenger train ran over the victims on the railway track at Hadapsar and Manjari phata.

The government railway police (GRP) have identified the deceased as Rahul Surendra Singh (17) of Mundhwa,Shivananda Basappa (19) of Wadgaon Dhayari and Suraj Ashok Bachate (25) of Latur. Police said that a Pune – Solpaur passenger train ran over Singh and Basappa on the railway track below the Magarpatta – Mundhwa Railyway Bridge in Hadapsar around 8.40 am. The Bachate died on the spot,while another youngster hit by the train was injured.

On receiving the information,a team of Hadapsar police and GRP rushed to the spot. Police identified the deceased from the driving licences found in their clothes. The identity of the injured youth was not revealed till reports last came in. Police suspect that Pune – Solapur Samparkkranti train,hit the victims. Police suspect that the victims may havegot confused while crossing the railway track as a Daund Pune train was coming from another track. The GRP is investigating the case. In a similar incident,five children were killed at Solapur in the last week.
