Auto companies in Pune recorded higher sales in the last calendar year compared to 2010,though the overall sales of some companies were hit by market slowdown.
Mercedes-Benz India recorded 30 per cent growth,selling 7,430 units from January to December 2011 compared to 5,819 units sold in the corresponding period in 2010. The growth has been witnessed across all the ranges,including its C and E-class vehicles,completely built unit (CBU) segment,SUV portfolio and in sports car segment of SLS AMG and SLK 350. A company spokesman said the growth could have been higher had it not been affected by the slowdown.
Bajaj Auto sales figures released on Monday states that the company recorded a higher motorcycle and commercial vehicle sales in December 2011 compared to the corresponding month in 2010. Motorcycle sale was 2,63,699 last month compared to 2,43,675 in December 2010. The sales figure in the commercial vehicle category sector was 41,991 in December 2011 compared to 33,128 in December 2010. In December 2011,export figure of commercial vehicles and motorcycles was 1,19,708 in December 2011 compared to 95,388 in December 2010. Between April and December 2011,sale in both motorcycles and three wheelers was 33,32,393 compared to 28,75,756 for the same period in previous year.
Bajaj Auto,motorcycle division,president K Srinavas said the domestic market of two-wheelers grew by only 2 per cent in December 2011 compared to previous year. Compared to December 2010,growth in exports was 33 per cent while growth in domestic market was only 8 per cent, he said,adding that the slowdown had an impact on the domestic sale of two-wheeler segment.
The total sales of Tata Motors,including export of commercial and passenger vehicles,in December 2011 was 82,278 vehicles which is higher by 22 per cent when compared to December 2010 figure. The company’s domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles for December 2011 was 76,663 which is higher by 24 per cent over sale of 61,685 in December 2010.
Garware Motors sales general manager Shivpad Ray said the superbike segment was not been hit due to the slowdown. “Between May and December 2011 we have sold 450 superbikes while the overall market for superbikes is between 1,500 and 2,000 units,” he said.
