2010 case: Woman gets life term for bludgeoning husband to death

“On the intervening night of July 6-7,2010,Chavan entered into an heated argument with Rekha on the issue,following which Rekha hit him on the head with a grinding stone. The Rajgad Police had seized her blood stained clothes,” said additional public prosecutor Ramesh Ghorpade.

He examined 17 witnesses to prove the crime.

Rekha was also re-arrested in February this year for allegedly running a sex racket in Pimpri and Bhosari area after two minor girls and a woman was rescued from the area.

Rekha had told police that she was operating a sex-racket for the past one year and had roped in girls on contract basis. She said she got involved in the racket on the advice of another woman,whom she met in the Yerawada Central Jail when she was an under-trial prisoner for the murder case.

“She came in contact with one Rekha Pillai who was arrested under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) for running a sex racket in the city. The woman had helped Rekha get bail last year and also introduced her to flesh trade business. Rekha used to target needy and financially weak girls,” police said.

The case against Rekha under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act is under trial.
