2 held for snatching chain

Two suspected chain snatchers were arrested by the Deccan police after they snatched a gold chain from a 53-year-old woman on Saturday night. Police nabbed a minor accomplice of the two suspects first after the woman raised an alarm and later arrested the other two.

The incident occurred at 9.30 pm in Deccan Gymkhana area when Madhuri Karlekar was returning home from somewhere. The Deccan police said the three had been following Karlekar in a motorbike. Near PYC Gymkhana,one of them got down and snatched her chain while the other two fled on the bike.

Police Sub-Inspector B R Daima said: “The complainant raised an alarm after which some alert citizens nabbed the suspect. He turned out to be a minor. Based on his information we have arrested two other suspects.” The two are Rajesh Datta Thorat (19) and Vishal Kishor Nagarkar (25).

The investigating team comprises constables Mahesh Nimbalkar,Rajkumar Patil,Sudesh Sakpal and Vivek Jadhav.
