It was just two days before the Pune blast that the city-based College of Military Engineering conducted its first disaster management-training capsule for district officials.

Representatives were chosen by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) from nine states. However,no Pune-based district officer was part of this module.

After the blast in German Bakery in Pune, training instructors say they would incorporate the new feed back from the blast into the training modules.

The training module initiated by NDMA was organised after a seminar on nuclear, radiological and chemical disasters,by the CME officials in the first week of February for district administrative officials, the media and the police.

Many Pune administrative officials including the police and the fire brigade were present for the seminar,CME officials said.

“We will interact with these officials again for feed back and will incorporate in our future training modules,” said an instructor.

“In our trainings,we concentrated on man-made disasters like a terror attack, which basically give officials very little response time to act. Other modules also focused on chemical, nuclear, biological and radiological disasters and industrial disasters. said a CME official.
