Worli hit-and-run accused Mihir Shah’s tests show no alcohol; police cite delay in sample collection

Shah reportedly ran over the woman on the morning of July 7, then fled the scene and was arrested on July 9. According to police, Shah visited a bar in Juhu with friends, where he allegedly consumed whiskey. He also bought four beer cans from a bar in Malad and consumed them inside his car.

“Shah returned to his Borivali residence to drop off his friends, then switched to his BMW for a joyride to Marine Drive,” said a police officer.

“During the ride, he drank beer and, on his return, lost control of the vehicle near Worli, running over a woman named Kaveri Nakhwa,” added the officer.

Nakhwa was travelling with her husband Pradeep when Shah’s vehicle struck their two-wheeler from behind. She was killed after being dragged for over one-and-a half kilometres, having become trapped between the bumper and tire of Shah’s BMW. Shah then switched seats with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat.

Mihir Shah contacted his father Rajesh, who advised him to flee and instructed Bidawat to take responsibility for the accident. Both Rajesh and Bidawat were arrested on the night of July 7.

Shah was later arrested in Virar on July 9. “As Shah was apprehended 48 hours after the incident, the delay in collecting blood and urine samples likely resulted in the negative test results,” said the officer. “We have sufficient evidence to prove that he consumed alcohol,” he added.
