This year,Bangalore-based theatre company Indian Ensemble has had plenty of reasons to celebrate. At the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards this year, their 2012 production Gasha won the Best Play,Best Original Script and the Best Ensemble awards. Now,the theatre company is bringing the award-winning play, along with their first production,Treadmill,to Prithivi Theatre in Mumbai this September.

The play Gasha, directed by Abhishek Majumdar,is set against the backdrop of the Kashmir unrest and tells the story of a fractured friendship between a Kashmiri Pandit and a Kashmiri Muslim. It is the third and final part of their Kashmir Trilogy, the first two parts being Rizwan and Djinns of Eidgah. Their 2009 production Treadmill, also directed by Majumdar, uses the title as a metaphor, while looking at the lives of people in towns — they are constantly on the move but don’t get anywhere. The play was an official selection at the first Festival of Contemporary Indian Theatre in Paris this year.

Treadmill will be performed on September 3 and 4 at Prithvi Theatre in Juhu and Gasha will be presented on September 5 .
