After a week of incessant rainfall, the sunny weather since Sunday came as a welcome change for Mumbai, however,on Monday, the temperature and humidity rose considerably causing citizens to fear if the season had already passed.
On Monday, the maximum temperature stood at 31°C and the minimum at 28°C while the humidity soared by 77 and 91 per cent in Santacruz and Colaba respectively.
Weather officials said as a trend, the day-time heating would cause rise in moisture through the day and as a result there were chances of thundershowers in the evening.
After a long good spell, the city recorded only traces of rainfall activity in the city and suburbs.
Dr Medha Khole, director (Weather Forecasting),India Meteorological Department (IMD),Pune, said,The monsoon trough has moved northwards and is bringing good rains to the north and north-eastern states. The western and central regions are in turn experiencing a subdued phase. For Mumbai and the western coast, rains will continue but the intensity may not be very high for a while. However, this is just a temporary phase and there is a good chance of the monsoon reviving through the month.
The shift in trough is bringing heavy showers to Uttar Pradesh,Bihar,Punjab,Haryana, the foot hills of Himalayas and the north-eastern regions,Khole said.
The IMD had forecast a few showers and chances of thundershowers in the city next week. While similar activity has been predicted across the state, parts of Vidharba have been recording good rainfall,IMD stated.
