Waterlogging in some parts as rains lash the city

“The favourable conditions for advancement of rains from both Arabian Sea side and Bay of Bengal have led to consistent showers on Thursday,” said an official from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Light but consistent showers affected rail and road services in the city.

The rains caused waterlogging at various places. According to the BMC control room,there were many complaints of waterlogging at the Andheri subway,Hindmata Junction,Andheri Link Road and SV Road.

“Though it rained mildly,the traffic on the Kurla-Sakinaka-LBS-Jeri-Meri belt was blocked and there was water logging on the main road,” said Anil,a daily commuter on the route.

According to a railway official,“Trains were late by about 15 minutes on both central and western routes.” The rain also led to slight delays in flight movement,according to airport officials.

So far,this month,the Colaba weather station has recorded 78.7 mm of rainfall,while Santacruz has received 174.3 mm of rainfall. The maximum temperature recorded at Santacruz weather station was 34°C and 31.2°C at Colaba.

According to IMD officials,the monsoon arrived in the city on June 5,five days ahead of schedule.

The IMD has made a forecast of occasional spells or showers in the next 24 hours across the city with the maximum temperature to be around 33°C and minimum around 26°C.
