AGITATING Wardha farmers ended their hunger strike on Friday following the Resident Deputy Collector of Wardha Vaibhav Navadkar presenting before them minutes of the meeting held at Mumbai on Thursday to resolve their problem.

The government has promised to complete various modalities required to pay up dues of over 400 farmers from Seloo tehsil of the district defaulted by cotton trader Sunil Talatule. These include legal check about the government claim on his properties under attachments but mortgaged with banks, stopping the acquisition of his property by MHADA at Nagpur, initiating steps to get his bail cancelled in High Court and finding out if and why steps were not taken to get it cancelled till date, making necessary changes in the law to safeguard the interest of the farmers in case of purchase by private traders, etc.
Talatule allegedly duped the farmers of over Rs 8 crore against purchase of cotton in 2014-15. The farmers had tried to stage a protest in front of the RSS headquarter here since Talatule is son of one of the RSS founders Prabhakar Talatule. They had later been released but they had been sitting on a relay hunger strike for about a fortnight since then.
