The police have initiated investigations into the death of two young men whose bodies were found at a road construction site on the Sion-Vashi highway on Saturday. Mankhurd police said the deceased, Amir Mangale (30) and Santosh Kade (25), were residents of Mankhurd’s Sonpara slum area.

“The bodies were recovered after the police control room received a call from some people who saw them on Saturday morning. We reached the spot and found that injuries to the bodies of both the deceased were nearly identical. They appear to have been beaten by a blunt object repeatedly resulting in severe bruising on their arms, legs, and back but there were no injuries to the head and the chest of the victims,” said Senior Police Inspector Vilas Kanade, adding that a detailed post mortem examination report was awaited for a clearer idea of the cause of death.

Based on the injuries visible on the bodies of the victims, the police have registered of murder against unknown persons. Prima facie, the motive behind the murder is being assumed to be robbery, as their wallets and cell phones were missing, the police said.
