Police said that the incident took place around 7am when the three — Naveed Alam Afroz Alam Idrisi (23), Fayyaz Ahmed Ansari (30) and Sohail Khan — who were residents of Shivaji Nagar in Govandi, were going on a “joy ride”.
“They had gone to Bandra in the night and the incident took place when they were heading from Bandra to Kurla,” police said adding the three were riding one bike, without wearing helmets.
“As per our preliminary investigation, it appears that they were riding at a high speed due to which they lost control over the vehicle and ended up ramming onto the pole and the divider,” the officer said.
The injured were rushed to Bhabha Hospital, where Idrisi and Ansari were declared brought dead. “Khan is under treatment and still recuperating,” said the officer.
Police have registered a case of accidental death in the incident. Sub-inspector Amasidh Rampure of BKC police station, who is the investigating officer in the case, said, “We are yet to register a case of negligent driving as we are still trying to ascertain who was riding the bike.”
Police said the bodies have been handed over to the families.
