Two arrested for lottery scam

Two persons,including a South African,were arrested by Unit 8 of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch for allegedly operating an e-mail lottery scam.

Two persons,including a South African,were arrested by Unit 8 of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch for allegedly operating an e-mail lottery scam. The police recovered fake demand drafts worth millions of dollars of various international banks and also seized four mobile phones,a flash drive with data on potential victims and letter heads of various banks. The accused have been identified as Immanuel Nuseb (37) from Johannesburg and Ravindarsingh Vachcher (52) from Mulund. The duo was arrested on December 16 from Vile Parle where they came to meet a potential victim. The officers claimed that the duo had cheated people of lakhs of rupees. “The modus operandi was to convince people through e-mail that they had won millions of dollars and that to avail the prize,they had to pay a small amount to the accused as the processing fee,” the officer said.The police also found out that Nuseb had a fake Ghanaian passport. The accused have been remanded in police custody until December 23.
