Three killed in accident at Mahad

Three persons from Mumbai were killed and another was injured when their Maruti Swift jumped a road divider and collided head-on with a truck at Vahur village near Mahad city in Raigad on Sunday morning.

Three persons from Mumbai were killed and another was injured when their Maruti Swift jumped a road divider and collided head-on with a truck at Vahur village near Mahad city in Raigad on Sunday morning.

According to Raigad police,the car was heading towards Mumbai and was on National Highway 17 connecting Mumbai to Kochi via Goa and the truck was headed towards Goa. The driver of the car lost control of the vehicle which jumped the divider and veered on to opposite track crashing into the truck.

The villagers rescued the occupants from the mangled remains of the car and police rushed them to hospital where they were declared dead.

The deceased are Mahesh Oak (42),a resident of Mulund,Shekhar Ramchandra Reghe (36) of Goregaon and Mohan Shankar Oak of Palghar. Nandkishore Hari Khot (43),the lone survivor,is a resident of Dadar. Reghe who was behind the wheels of the car was a professor with a city college.

“The four were on their way back from Konkan where they had gone to distribute the invitation cards for Reghe’s sister’s marriage,” said a police officer from the Raigad police. Police suspect that Reghe might have dozed off which caused the accident.
