Merzi Screwalas timely break of 46 in the deciding frame helped Radio Club Dikras snatch a 3-2 win over NIA Chargers in a Group-A round-robin Super League match of the WZO (World Zoroastrian Organisation) Trust Mumbai snooker league 2011,organised by the Billiards & Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).
After both the teams were tied at two frames apiece,Screwala (handicap +35) held his nerves to compile that brilliant run to tame Chargers cueists H Shah (+45) 97-68 in that crucial frame and seal the match for the Dikras at the P.J. Hindu Gymkhana billiards hall.
With an all-win record in the four-team group,Dickras are through to the pre-quarters along with ECC Boombangabang,who finished second with four points from two wins and a loss.
Meanwhile,former two-time Asian snooker champion,Yasin Merchant,despite playing with a scratch handicap won both his frames to enable Khar Gymkhana Rivals scrape through a narrow 3-2 win against MIG Feathers in a Group-C clash at DPCG billiards hall.
Yasin won the opening frame against Gaurav Prabhu (+45) to give the Rivals a positive start. But they squandered the lead by losing the next two frames,before Yasin returned back to the table and with a well compiled break of 43 he once again demolished Prabhu to level the scores at 2-2. In the decider,Amandeep Koli (+40) potted steadily to post a 87-46 win against R Girish (+10) to clinch tie in favour of the Khar team. This was the second win for Rivals in the four-team group and they next take on SPG Youngsters on Tuesday.
Rahul Narang of SPG Golden Eagles,who made a break of 53 in the opening round,has the best effort in the tournament so far.
