Ring Ka King has been knocked out and its time for the beasts to be let loose in the cage for Super Fight League (SFL). Leading the combat are Raj Kundra and Sanjay Dutt, making this property Indias first professionally organised mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting league, which will be aired on Colors in May. SFL,a product of Dutt and Kundras company,Super Fight Promotions Pvt Ltd,debuted in Mumbai last month. The second contest of the series was held in Chandigarh on Friday.
MMA is a full contact sport,a kind of an organised street fight, which uses both striking and grappling techniques and involves 36 different martial arts, says Kundra. No,cricket has not taken a back seat. His Rajasthan Royals team is still playing at the IPL,but SFL is something he has been working on for some time. Both Sanjay and I wanted to promote a sport other than cricket, and Sanjay knows more about it as hes trained in it, he adds.
Not only men, women will also rough it out in the SFL cage. To add value to the league,Kundra and Dutt, along with leagues CEO Ken Pavia and COO Daniel Isaac, plan to open MMA training schools across India. We already have a training camp in Nashik and will open another one by December, says Kundra.
There are perks of the game too. Theres a buzz that Dutt will launch the SFL winner in his next film. MMA is a very tough sport and the winner will definitely get his due credit, says the actor.
The fights will also be streamed live on YouTube.
The show will spread over 50 days, with voting and elimination nights. The fighters will also be given tasks throughout the week. Like in Bigg Boss, the fighters will be completely cut off from the outside world, says Kundra.
