‘Thane projects will deliver 3,000 tenements’

Metropolitan Commissioner Rahul Asthana on Sunday visited two rental housing projects in Thane.

The two projects,in Vartak Nagar and in Manpada,are expected to deliver 3,000 tenements. “The project ‘Dosti Vihar’ at Vartak Nagar,Thane,is getting ready. We expect them to deliver in all 1,492 rental tenements in four buildings by August 2012 along with 32 shops,four balwadis,four welfare centres and four cabins for caretakers,” Asthana said.

He also visited ‘Dosti Imperia’ at Manpada,Thane,where 1,429 houses in five buildings are being constructed and are expected to be ready soon. The same facilities will be provided here along with other basic amenities.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has,till today,sanctioned location clearance to 41 projects and expects about one lakh rental houses to be built in the next two years. Of these,20 projects have received permission to execute work.

Under the rental housing scheme,MMRDA plans to construct rental tenements to be given on a rent ranging between Rs 800 to Rs 1,500. Any individual,who has been a resident of Maharashtra for the last 15 years and has a minimum monthly income of Rs 5,000,would be able to avail a home under this scheme.
