Terror alert at CSIA,security tightened

Security at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was beefed up following an intelligence input by central agencies about a possible terror strike using a small plane.

Security at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) was beefed up following an intelligence input by central agencies about a possible terror strike using a small plane.

A spokesperson for Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) confirmed that security agencies had been placed on high alert. “Security at the airport has been beefed up. We are not taking any chances,” said the MIAL spokesperson.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sources said they had received an input from central agencies about a possible strike. “Mumbai is one of the most sensitive airports in the country along with Delhi. Any security input has to be taken seriously. We received information from central agencies and are on high alert. Security at the airport is high,” said a CISF official.

The official said they had received information about a small aircraft being used for a possible terror strike and have asked everyone to keep an eye out for private helicopters and small aircraft. “Our Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) is on standby mode. All officials have been asked to look out for suspicious objects,” said the official.

The official added that they are monitoring the situation closely. “We are always on high alert. This input just tells us to be prepared. Our checks will be thorough and we will check everyone who comes to the airport,” he said.

A source from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) said their teams have been formed and are on a standby mode. “Our men are prepared. We have asked all our officials to ensure they remain vigilant at all times,” said the BCAS official.
